The challenges faced by our planet is something every individual now needs to address in order to protect our future.
As we demand change from our leaders, we as companies need also to change and become accountable for the work we produce.
Studio Knot is commited to working towards a sustainable future and by working with a partner mill that shares our view and has in place a three dimensional sustainability development programme that focuses on compliance, environment and social initiatives.
From how we weave and package our rugs to addressing and reversing our carbon emissions we are working towards a brighter future for our fragile planet.
investing in nature to become carbon negative
One of our biggest initiatives has been for us to become carbon negative as a company.
By planting trees we reverse the amount of Co2 we release into the atmosphere - which is one of the best ways for our business to invest in the battle against climate change.
For each x1 m2 of rug we weave, we are committed to planting enough trees to capture over 3 times as much carbon as we put into the atmosphere.
We use our worst performing rug in terms of carbon emissions as our CO2 capture benchmark across our whole range of rugs.

Mangrove planting in Madagascar
We support Earthly and the Eden Reforestation Projects which has reforestation and poverty recovery at its core.
Mangroves are perfect when it comes to carbon sequestration and also provide a natural benefits such as storm surge protection and vital habitat for many species.
To date, the project has planted over 334 million trees across 8 countries, opening up 3.3 million days of work for local communities. By 2025, their goal is to plant 500 million trees each year.
perfect for the planet
In Madagascar, forest restoration is an important issue - they have lost over 90% of their native forest cover to date. A huge impact for biodiversity, as 75% of its species are found only here in the world. We are looking to protect and reforest areas that have been decimated.
Mangroves are a perfect forest type for restoration - it captures more carbon than traditional forests, it also provides sea communities storm protection, water purification and combats poverty. Each mangrove tree removes from the atmosphere about 308kg of CO2 over its 25 year life-cycle.
Replanting the mangrove forests is expected to bring back the once abundant bird diversity, but also rejuvinate the soil in the area which has been worsened by charcoal production.
Four mangrove species are planted with 10% agroforestry trees to provide a source of income to the local people. The mangroves are planted directly from propagules, and regeneration exceeds 200% of the original number of mangroves planted.
